Encompass

The Child and Youth Advocacy Centre in Langley is a purpose-built facility dedicated to supporting children, youth, and families through experiences of trauma. It provides a coordinated response to abuse and crimes against young people, bringing medical, justice, and child protection services together in one safe, welcoming environment.

The design is trauma-informed and nature-inspired—drawing on organic forms, natural textures, and calming tones to create spaces that feel safe, supportive, and restorative. Comfort and control were prioritized throughout, with subtle shifts in materiality and light defining zones for gathering, reflection, and private consultation.

Cultural safety is embedded in the architecture, most notably through the inclusion of a dedicated Indigenous space that honours tradition, ceremony, and connection. The result is a centre that balances openness with privacy, dignity with resilience, an environment carefully shaped to meet the needs of its community at the most vulnerable of times.
